My thoughts today on trauma…

I’m so convinced that we have got to figure out a way to get the school system and other folks that work with children educated on trauma and its impact on children’s development and their ability to learn. I hope that Administrators and teachers will begin to focus on the “why” behind a child’s behaviors and not just the behaviors and actions that they see.

There’s so much that our children are experiencing that they don’t know how to process. Even as adults, I feel that a lot of us wouldn’t know how to process what some of our children are experiencing and yet we expect them to come to school prepared to learn, follow rules and not address their issues. That’s just not fair.

As I begin working more with school systems and the students inside such school systems, my newest educational piece will be to assist personnel with understanding trauma, what it looks like and how it manifests in children.
